Vogue in the Afternoon
August 06, 2017
For almost a century the leading ladies of Hollywood have served as the style icons of popular culture. The stars that emerged in post war America, became the ‘Heroines of Hollywood’ for a generation of Irish fans that would flock to cinemas and newsstands for a glimpse of their favourite movie stars. Images of these classic actresses from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, were key contributors to the cocktail of American cultural influences that ignited our insatiable obsession with glamour, fashion and beauty.
‘Vogue in the Afternoon’ offers the viewer a space to experience bold portraits of a selection of the leading females of Hollywood in an alternative gallery setting. The paintings will be displayed in the luxurious lobby of the Newpark Hotel Kilkenny, and accompanied by an exclusive afternoon tea menu specially designed to celebrate the glamour, style and vogue of a bygone era.
The exhibition will feature a series of new paintings by Gill O’Shea, depicting some of the most iconic and beautiful actresses of classic film including Audrey Hepburn, Mia Farrow, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot. The portraits and accompanying afternoon tea menu will be available in the Newpark Hotel from the 7th of August daily.

Titanium
June 06, 2017
'Titanium' celebrates the power, strength and beauty of the Lipizzaner Stallions. The Lipizzaner breed is famed for their association with the Spanish Riding School. They perform highly controlled classical dressage in a school that takes its name from the original Spanish heritage of its horses.
This series was specifically created for Mimosa Wine & Tapas Bar as a Carlow Arts Festival Fringe event. All the adult Stallions have been painted in a ground of titanium white. This is a fitting salute by the artist to strength, cosmic energy and mythology for these beautiful creatures.
The show runs from 7th to 18th June 2017
California Dreaming
May 19, 2017
Pin Up! Featuring the work of Claudia Huenchuleo, Derek Cracco, Gillian O’Shea, Marie-Pier Frigon, Nina Wright, Victor Barbieri, Walter Aprile and Winnie van der Rijn will open May 20th at the Classic Car West Gallery in Oakland and run through July 1st with special events including First Friday artist reception on June 2nd, and Saturday Stroll openings May 20th and June 17th.
From the coyly adventurous calendar girl hanging on locker-room walls to Instagram and high fashion spreads, representations and notions of femininity, feminism and female identity are shifting; so too are expectations and standards of male beauty. Who or what is the “ideal”; who interprets and owns this new standard?
OFFspace has embodied the current debate in this charged landscape with work alluding to, defying and epitomizing the new/post/disrupted ideal. Taking on fascination with weaponized sexuality, cheeky twists on the traditional supine, passive nude and the “candid” snapshot Pin Up! artists bring an array of views and perspectives together to challenge and celebrate the idealized (fe)male form.
May 20 – July 1, 2017 at Classic Car West Gallery
411 26th St Oakland, CA 94612, Oakland CA
Artist Reception Friday June 2nd from 6 -9pm
